As a wedding photographer, I have captured over 100 beautiful love stories at this point but Amelia & Keiths wedding day will always hold a special place in my heart! I’m not sure if the world is ready to hear the funny, romantic story of these two, but you get to anyway.
Let’s start with how they met. You might think Amelia & Keith were high school sweethearts when you hear they met in Grade 10, but that’s not quite how it happened. Amelia was in her emo stage, this was the early 2000s so I’m sure you all remember the choppy haircuts, dark eyeliner and our obsession with snake bite piercings. Well if you are a millennial you do anyways. Keith was a sporty, preppy guy and even though he has gone on record saying he thought Amelia may have been a witch, he fell for her regardless. Amelia wasn’t so convinced that he was the one for her though.
Keith knew she was it, his crush on her was described by his best friends as “parasitic” even, but the timing for them just never seemed to work out in highschool. Eventually they graduated, went off to university and lost touch.
Keith was part of a fraternity in university, taking on impressive leadership roles, and then working hard in the summer as a foreman on a construction site. Amelia was working towards her degree and building a pretty exclusive, I hear, book club with her friends. (Am I a little jealous I’m not in the club? Yes, yes I am!) Eventually earning a very impressive Masters in Counselling Psychology!
Then the dark ages hit, you know the ones, Covid-19. Only they weren’t so dark for Amelia & Keith, they reconnected on instagram, then spent quite a few weeks working remotely together during those unprecedented times, off in beautiful BC where they really got to fall in love!
A couple years into their love story and Keith proposed in the mountains, with the most stunning snowflake, Disney Enchanted ring I have ever laid my eyes on, and Amelia of course said “YES!”
From the first moment on the phone with Amelia, I knew we were going to connect! She immediately exclaimed “I LOVE YOUR LAST NAME”, Potter, my last name is Potter, and of course being a huge reader, she loved it. Our phone call was effortless, we had so many similarities, both having February weddings, and both being huge readers it felt like we had known each other for years. Before the phone call was over Amelia had already decided she wanted me to be the one to capture her day, I was stoked to be a part of it! Winter weddings will always hold a special place for me!
Their wedding was held at the gorgeous Exchange YEG venue in downtown Edmonton.I was lucky enough to be there to capture the full day, from getting ready, first look, ceremony, portraits and reception, I was got to hang out with the coolest wedding party and Bride & Groom for a full 9 hours. Amelia starting her walk down the aisle to the Star Wars Theme song, which was quickly switched out for a romantic melody, was the PERFECT entrance, for this funny, romantic and kind of nerdy (in the best ways) couple! Keith proudly stated how he fell for Amelia in high-school, even though he thought she may have been a witch at the time, well he might still think that, but fell for her regardless. Amelia emotionally told the story of how they together have created a fun, easy-going life together. Their vows were both romantic, candid and so naturally them!
We spent the next few hours capturing a mix of posed portraits, fun photos with their friends and family, candid photos have a beer in the bar, and the best part, to top it all off, sunset portraits in the courtyard across the street! On our short walk back to the venue, I spotted some windows showing a pretty spectacular reflection, and got Keith and Amelia to pose for “just one more photo” (Is it ever really just one more? I always hope not.) During dinner I edited a few quick sneak peeks for them to check out and Keith let me know, their favourite photo, was that reflection one that I “made them take” You’re Welcome!
From the emotional speeches, stories, laughs and easy going nature, Amelia & Keiths wedding is one for the books! It was an honour to capture their love story, and I’m so excited for them and the life they have created together. Cheers to you both!
For this wedding, I had the pleasure of working alongside Sheena and the Champagne & Roses Weddings crew. If you aren’t familiar with them, they are an Edmonton based Wedding Planning & Coordinating dream team! Seriously, I have done a lot of weddings, and this one was by far the most seamless of them all, the timeline, coordination, decor set up, and energy that Sheena and her team brought to this wedding were unmatched.
