As many of my clients know, I grew up on Vancouver Island, so when I got a call one evening from Nial that he had plans to propose to his girlfriend in Tofino of all places, you KNOW I wasn’t missing it!
We went over all the details, some poses, outfit inspiration, booked plane tickets and hotels that same evening, and the very next weekend I flew out to Tofino to photograph this absolutely breathtaking engagement session on the beach.
Unfortunately when I arrived in Tofino there was a huge surf competition happening on Long Beach, which is where we had planned to do the photos, so I drove around looking for a location and found Cox Bay, Tofinfo. The location was the perfect backdrop, with rock cliffs, beautiful sandy beaches, plus being smaller and more private we decided to do it there.
For this proposal Michelle knew that we were doing a professional photography session, what she didn’t know was the surprise proposal that was coming!
Throughout the beginning of the session, I posed them naturally, and candidly as I would with any couples session. When the time was right, I had Michelle turn and face the water, I asked her to stay nice and still and told her Nial was going to face the other direction, so they would be back to back, but instead, we had pre-planned for this to be the moment Nial got down on one knee, and popped that question every girl is dreaming to hear “Will you marry me?”
There were tears, laughter, and joy, but eventually she got out a “YES!”
And the rest is history!
